Why a number
Because a vision nobody can count is a vision nobody can join
A thousand is not a target set to be impressive. It is small enough to be real and large enough to change a nation, and it is countable — which means anyone can see whether it is happening, including us.
The ten is the part that matters most, and it is the part most easily dropped. A disciple maker who disciples ten people has added ten. A disciple maker who raises ten disciple makers has started something that does not need them any more. Addition ends with the person doing it. Multiplication does not.

Three things. None of them is a meeting.

Be discipled yourself
Nobody disciples out of thin air. Every disciple maker is walking with someone who is walking with them — this is not a course you complete and leave behind.

Walk with ten
Not a class of ten. Ten relationships, at ten different paces, over years rather than weeks. Some will fall away. Some will come back.

Give it away
The goal is not ten disciples. It is ten disciple makers — people who will do for others exactly what was done for them. That is what multiplies; anything less only adds.
